Greece will receive the first 3 of 7 MH-60R Seahawk helicopters

Greece will receive the first three of seven MH-60R Seahawk (“Romeo”) helicopters during the first few months of operation of the U.S. Navy transport aircraft, Sikorsky announced Wednesday.

Lockheed Martin said in a statement that Sikorsky has completed testing of integrated systems and sensors on board three MH-60R Seahawk helicopters that will be delivered to the Greek Navy in December 2023 and confirmed that each helicopter is ready to perform anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare missions from land or warship.

Greece has placed separate orders for MH-60R helicopters – four in July 2020 and three in April 2021 – as part of the program “Foreign Military Sales” with the US government. After delivery of the first three aircraft, the remaining four will arrive in 2025, the manufacturer said.

The Greek Navy’s MH-60R aircraft will join 11 existing S-70B Seahawk aircraft at the Kotroni naval air station, located near Marathon in Eastern Attica. Known as “Aegean Hawks”, the old maritime helicopters were purchased from Sikorsky between 1994 and 2005.

Greece has become the seventh country to receive the US Navy’s MH-60R maritime helicopter. In Europe, Denmark operates nine MH-60R helicopters. Spain and Norway have placed orders for 14 MH-60R helicopters in 2023.

“The commonality of these Hellenic Navy MH-60R Seahawk aircraft with the Hellenic Navy’s 330 MH-60R and 250 MH-60S Seahawk aircraft, as well as the global fleet of Black Hawk helicopters, allows Sikorsky and the U.S. Navy to continue to support and modernize this proven weapons system to maximize threat deterrence and operational potential”said Sikorsky President Paul Lemmo.
