Revenue from visiting the Acropolis increased from 46 million euros in 2022 to 60 million in 2023

“Thanks to last year’s update of all services of the electronic ticket system created in 2018, Acropolis’s income is constantly growing. From 46 million euros in 2022 they reached 60 million euros in 2023.”

This was stated by Culture Minister Lina Mendoni in Parliament, answering a pressing question from New Left MP Nasos Iliopoulos about the structural changes promoted by the government and the management of visitors to the country’s archaeological museums/attractions.

“The new pricing policy responds to the social nature of cultural goods and to increasing the organization’s income with the sole purpose of reinvesting it in cultural projects and activities,” said Ms. Mendoni.

“For the first time, individual out-of-hours visits to the archaeological site of the Acropolis of Athens were offered, a practice that operates in many other European countries and has been in demand in the Greek tourism market for many years. In this way, the predetermined and fixed opening hours of the Acropolis archaeological site from 8 am to 8 pm for the public are not violated, Ms. Mendoni emphasized. “In any case, responsibility and control over the archaeological site remains the exclusive competence of the NPDD ODAP, which is and will be managed by the Ministry of Culture.”
