What to do with meat in the freezer that you completely forgot about for… a whole year


Is it possible to stock up on meat for future use for several years? Is it possible to eat chops that have been in the freezer for several months? Strange question, you will be surprised, but such situations do occur.

We are talking about how long meat can stay in the freezer without compromising quality and safety. Is it safe for health and will it taste good after cooking?

Referring to experts, BB.LV assertsthat you can eat it! Low temperatures in the freezer inhibit bacterial growth and significantly slow down the decomposition process. But things are not so rosy in terms of taste. Firstly, “forgotten” meat significantly “loses weight” – it can lose up to half of its own weight. Secondly, it will most likely remain tough even after a long and careful preparation of your favorite dish from it.

The thing is that even when frozen, the water from the food evaporates and freezes outside in the form of ice crystals. These products appear to remain almost intact, but weigh only 20-25% of their original weight and have the consistency of styrofoam when left in the freezer for a year or more. Will this meat be tasty? Definitely not.

In principle, meat in the correct (sealed) packaging at a temperature of -18 can be stored indefinitely, but its taste will be lost. Therefore, experts writes “Stem” publication recommends storing it in the freezer for no more than a year. Finished products are stored for no more than six months.
