Social electricity tariff for families with many children: what you need to know to apply


There are only a few hours left until the opening of the EDIKA platform, which will accept applications from beneficiaries to receive a social tariff for households (ΚΟΤ Γ) – special tariff for families with many children.

As stated in a recent statement by the Ministry of Environment and Energy, for inclusion in ΚΟΤ beneficiaries will be able to submit their applications from 02/01/2024.

In the near future, the necessary procedures will be completed to ensure interaction between the site and relevant departments and institutions.

To become beneficiaries ΚΟΤ Γapplicants will be required to post on the platform a certificate of their marital status, accompanied by a certificate from the Supreme Confederation of Greek Polytechnics, in order to confirm their status of having many children.

There is a reduced electricity price for residential use, with the 10c/kWh discount applied to primary residences only.

Regarding the expanded inclusion criteria ΚΟΤ Γbased on income, then for a family with four dependent children the maximum annual income is set at 50,000 eurosand for each additional child the amount is added at 2500 eurosup to a general limit of 70,000 euros, regardless of the number of dependent family members. It is expected that the vast majority of large families will become beneficiaries.

The specified threshold is increased by 8000 euros for a familyin which there is a person or people with a disability of 67% or more, and by 15,000 euros for a family in which there is a person or people requiring mechanical assistance using medical devices, provided at home and necessary for their life.

At the same time, within ΚΟΤ Γ Extended four-month consumption limits apply to qualify for discount. They start with 2,000 kW/h/quarter for families with four dependent children, with the addition 200 kW/h for each additional dependent child, up to a maximum limit of 4,000 kW/h, regardless of the number of dependent family members.

The specified limit is additionally increased by 300 kW/h for a large family, which includes a person or people with a disability of 67% or more, and for 600 kW/h for a large family that includes a person or people who require mechanical support using medical devices provided at home and necessary for their life.

In addition, it is noted that beneficiaries of the new tariff for large families benefit from the energy savings they achieve compared to the four-month consumption limit. This additional discount for achieving a savings target that cannot exceed 20% of the base discount, that is 12 cents/kWh.
