Find out when winter sales start and what Sunday stores will be open

The 2024 Winter Sales begin next Monday, January 8th, with offers running until February 29th.

Let us remind you that by law winter sales begin on the second Monday of every January and end at the end of February. Supermarkets do not follow retailers, especially during discount periods, in opening their stores. However, during the Easter, Christmas and New Year holidays they open as usual. On the first Sunday of the winter sales period, which is Sunday 14 January, stores will be open.

What should consumers watch out for? The Greek Consumer Union has published 5 rules to avoid becoming victims of “suggestions”:

  • Conduct market research and check not only the price (original and new), but also the quality of the products. They should search the Internet for the price of the product that consumers are about to purchase by code or model number to ensure that the price they have determined is the best one.
  • Determine your needs and plan your purchases into a list that will fit your personal or family budget, avoiding wasteful spending.
  • Be informed about the details and conditions of your transaction when purchasing goods in installments. In particular, when making purchases with a credit card, always be aware of the terms and conditions of the specific purchase.
  • Products must indicate the original price and the promotional price (not the discount percentage).
  • Attention! Offers often state that there can be no refunds, so if you regret it, you won’t be able to change it.
  • Always ask for a receipt for purchased items.
  • If the product is defective and you want to return or exchange it, presenting the receipt is required.

The forecast that retail turnover this December will exceed last year’s €3.83 billion and cross the €4 billion mark appears to have finally come true, while consumer gift preferences remain unchanged: on Clothing and footwear are in first place, followed by gifts, toys and cosmetics.”
