The price of tickets for KTEL buses will increase by 9%

A tariff adjustment was deemed absolutely necessary as operating costs had risen sharply.

The 9% increase in ticket prices comes into effect immediately on KTEL city and intercity services throughout Greece. As noted, the adjustment is made 14 years after the last revaluation in 2010.

As industry professionals point out, the tariff adjustment was deemed necessary as costs have risen sharply. In particular, after negotiations, the POAS administration reached an agreement with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport to increase ticket prices by 0.10 cents, that is, by 9%, as stated in the Official Gazette B΄7141/20/12/2023.

Mr. Michalis Sakellariou, President of the Panhellenic Federation of Urban Transport and President/CEO of Larissa City Bus KTEL SA emphasizes in his statement: “The work of KTEL has continued despite the unfavorable conditions that workers have faced over the years. As Urban Buses, we have weathered all the financial turmoil caused by successive financial and health crises by respecting the community and our passengers above all else.

Now, when inflationary trends are growing, electricity costs have risen sharply, this ensures not only the sustainability of our development, our new investments for the benefit of passengers, but also the very survival of KTEL. This is a slight increase in ticket prices in principle. does not solve the accumulated problems, but covers in the long term part of the fixed and constant needs of our operating expenses. Negotiations and discussion of the problem with the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Mr. Christos Staikouras and the Deputy Minister, Mrs. Christina Alexopoulou, were constructive and in an atmosphere of mutual understanding.

As a result, we reached agreement on a slight increase in ticket prices, fully understanding the financial problems of citizens. We don’t want to put a strain on the family budget, but we must continue to provide reliable services to passengers, ensure that transport is carried out at a high level, and that city and intercity bus services remain the most popular mode of transport. It is worth noting that the cost of monthly and annual cards with unlimited travel does not increase, and offers of ticket packages (10+1 gift) continue.”
