Expert warns: “During the holidays, with the prevalence of coronavirus, flu and streptococcus, you need to be careful”

Ahead of Christmas, doctors are expressing concern that holidays and family dinners will lead to a surge in infections.

According to the president of the Athens-Piraeus Hospital Physicians Association (EINAP), Matina Pagoni, cases of coronavirus have become more frequent recently. A similar scenario prevails regarding influenza and streptococcus: “In almost every house there is a sick person. Cases of influenza and viruses are recorded every day. In addition, there is an outbreak of streptococcus, which has caused panic throughout the world.”

Pneumonia caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae is an acute inflammation of lung tissue, which is caused by an infectious agent – streptococcus pneumoniae or pneumococcus. It can occur as a separate disease or as a complication of another pathology.

“When children develop symptoms, i.e. sore throat and fever, it is necessary to urgently contact a pediatrician who knows the medical history. If treatment is started quickly, there will be no problems,” said Matina Pagoni.

The EINAP President sent her own message to the people of Greece, saying: “In these days, everyone would benefit from getting a flu shot. Now that we are all together, we need to have an antiseptic with us, we must remember to get tested for Covid and put on a mask before going to visit.”
