Voting in the UN Security Council: only the US supported Israel and prevented its condemnation

The US blocked a UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip on humanitarian grounds and made it clear to the international community that Israel is above international law for the Biden administration.

Thirteen council members voted in favor of the proposal, with the US voting against and the UK abstaining.
The negative voice of the United States, as a permanent member of the Security Council, did not allow the resolution to be adopted. Russia, China, France, Ecuador, Japan, Malta, Switzerland, Mozambique, Albania, Brazil, Gabon, Ghana, Switzerland and the United Arab Emirates voted behind.

“All our recommendations were ignored”said the US deputy press secretary, saying the result was “an unbalanced resolution that is out of touch with reality.”We still cannot understand why the authors of the resolution refused to include language condemning the horrific attack by Hamas terrorists on Israel, an attack that resulted in the deaths of more than 1,200 people, women, children, the elderly, people of various nationalities, who were burned alive, shot and killed. were subjected to disgusting sexual violence. We are very disappointed that the sponsors of the resolution did not express condolences to the victims of these heinous acts and did not condemn their murders. This is unthinkable.”

The permanent members of the UN Security Council – the United States, Russia, China, Great Britain and France – have veto power and can therefore block decisions. Non-permanent members (currently) are Ecuador, Japan, Malta, Switzerland, as well as Mozambique, Albania, Brazil, Gabon, Ghana and the United Arab Emirates.

The resolution clearly reflects what the Athens News has repeatedly noted in its reports and articles: it has upended the perception of international support for Israel amid the killing by Israeli troops in Gaza of about 17,000 civilians, 70% of whom are women and children. And that the Hamas terrorist operation on October 7 with 1,200 dead finally “evaporated” communicatively and diplomatically for Tel Aviv, which gave its own “response” with 17,000 civilian dead.

Social media was flooded with burned babies, mutilated children and hundreds of beheaded people – images on which the next generation of Hamas or any other militant group will be raised. And the human slaughter will continue forever…
