What product has been added to the Christmas Basket?

The additional product in the Christmas basket, a promotion that will come into force next Wednesday, December 13, was announced this morning by Development Minister Kostas Skrekas.

As the SKAI channel reported, “pork will also be included because we also consume pork during the Christmas period.” “Our goal is to help the Greek family set the holiday table,” Mr. Skrekas added.

Explaining why in the Christmas basket lamb also included, Kostas Skrekas said that “during Christmas and New Year, we often consume traditional Greek dishes (for example, as at Easter). On lamb prices, the development minister said the goal was to keep them low: “We will ask supermarket chains cut prices even below last year’s Easter prices. We are ready to dialogue with suppliers so that we can reduce prices by up to 10%.”

Regarding offers in stores, Mr. Skrekas emphasized that at the beginning of 2024 there will be a regulation that will put an end to “virtual offers” (εικονικές προσφορές, i.e. misleading). After the final replenishment of the “Christmas basket” it will include the following products:

  1. Mutton
  2. Goat meat
  3. Turkey
  4. Chureki
  5. Vasilopita
  6. Chocolate.

We remind you that the Christmas hamper will be valid until January 3rd.
