MAT police have been lining up around the Syntagma Square Christmas tree for years now to guard it, fearing incidents on the 15th anniversary of the murder of Alexis Grigoropoulos.
The tree was burned in 2008 when, during large-scale demonstrations and unprecedented riots that broke out immediately after his murder by a policeman in Exarchia, demonstrators burned a Christmas tree erected in Syntagma Square by the municipality of Athens.
This year marks the 15th anniversary of the murder of Alexis Grigoropoulos by police officer Epaminondas. Korkoneas.
The Christmas tree in Syntagma Square, in honor of Grigoropoulos’s anniversary, is under police protection.
