Heating allowance: criteria for recipients and payment terms

The official government gazette (ΦΕΚ) published the decision on the provision of heating benefits for the period 2023/2024, which determines the recipients, conditions and procedure for its provision.

The first payments will be made before December 21 and will affect old beneficiaries who received the benefit last year, provided they apply to MyHeating by December 9th.

If the recipient in the winter period 2022/2023. received an advance payment in the amount of less than half the cost of subsidized purchases of heating oil or thermal energy, then he is not a recipient of the advance payment.

The remaining payments will be made:

• Until February 28, 2024 for all purchases invoiced before January 31, 2024 and subject to registration of the required data by February 15, 2024.
• Until April 28, 2024 – for all purchases for which invoices were issued before March 31, 2024 and are subject to registration until April 15, 2024.
• In particular, for natural gas, purchases for the period from 10/1/2023 to 03/31/2024 will be registered until May 31, 2024 with the date of issue of the payment document until May 16, 2024, and the corresponding premium amount will be paid until June 15, 2024.
• The decision also provides that the benefit is provided on the condition that the benefit recipient makes purchases of subsidized heating oil or thermal energy with a value greater than or equal to twice the amount of the benefit to which he is entitled from October 1, 2023 to March 31, 2024, and especially heating oil from October 14, 2023 – the date of termination of its provision.
