Professions in greatest demand in Greece

The vacancies that are most in demand in Greece are presented by the European Center for the Development of Vocational Education (Cedefop) based on an analysis of online advertisements.

The main occupations that Greece is looking for through online advertisements in 2022 are: business and administrative services, ICT (Information and communications technology), professional services (accounting, advertising, legal services), hospitality and transport, catering, wholesale and retail, and manufacturing and manufacturing industries. In the same survey, professionals ranked highest (33.2%) and were in the information technology field or office administrators.

Unemployment in Greece is on the verge of falling below the 10% limit it was at. in September 2009, that is, 14 years ago, when the country had not yet experienced an economic crisis. However, Greece still ranks second in EU highest unemployment rate after Spain.

Employment remains at a low level, 4.226 million people, on the other hand, it is declining significantly, by approximately 320 thousand workers, in relation to the number of employed – 4.546 million workers, recorded by the statistical service in September 2009. However, in relation to previous year the data shows that employment increased by 70,724 and by 55,173 from a month earlier in August 2023 (1.3%).

How are things going in the European Union? For example, in Spain, the employment rate of the population is 7.7 percentage points below the EU average (64.7%). The number of unemployed people decreased by 104,240 people compared to September 2022 (-18.2%) and by 24,549 people compared to August 2023 (-5.0%).

The reduction in male unemployment to 8% is considered significant, while the corresponding percentage of women, the main victims of unemployment, is about 12.4%. The corresponding figures a year ago were 9.4% and 15.5%. It is noteworthy that women’s unemployment is 35% higher than men’s, while their difference reaches 4.4 percentage points.
