Attica: 58-year-old Ukrainian who embezzled more than 1 million euros was arrested

A Ukrainian man, the director and shareholder of a technology company that supplied defense materials to his country’s armed forces, was arrested in Anavyssos by members of the Attica Investigation Department.

An international arrest warrant was issued for the citizen for the theft of one million euros. According to newsit.gr, a 58-year-old Ukrainian took 1 million 123 thousand euros from an advance issued by the Ukrainian government for the purchase of defense systems for the Ukrainian army and came to Greece. Here he rented an ultra-luxurious villa, which was actually a real fortress.

To avoid prying eyes, he surrounded the mansion with a high fence, installed surveillance cameras and an alarm system. The fence was topped with additional protection against penetration – special barbed wire.

For his travels and walks around luxury establishments and beaches, the Ukrainian businessman used a powerful jeep with foreign license plates.

It is reported that on 11/13/2023 at noon, a wanted citizen was spotted on Anavyssos Avenue in a luxury car. While refueling at a local gas station, law enforcement officers approached him and quickly subdued him. At the same time, the man resisted in order to avoid arrest.

On Tuesday, 14/11, the 58-year-old man was taken to the Athens prosecutor’s office to begin the process of extradition to his country.
