The escape of a lion from a circus in Italy, a town of 40,000 near Rome, forced residents to hide in their homes for several hours on November 11.
Although many were not at a loss and posted unique videos online. The animal wandered the streets for several hours and didn’t mind “becoming a star.”
To capture the lion, authorities created a “logistics command center,” mobilizing police and firefighters for the operation. Now they are laughing at them: many saw how the lion calmly crossed the street right in front of the police car, and they calmly continued to sit in the official car.
They searched for the animal until nightfall, and only from a helicopter they found the fugitive in a farmer’s field not far from the city. The lion was euthanized and, in this form, taken back to the city, where it was handed over “hand to hand” to the circus performers. Mayor of Ladispoli Alessandro Grando said:
“I hope this episode can awaken someone’s conscience and that we can finally put an end to the exploitation of animals in circuses.”
The mayor noted that he did not give permission for the presence of a circus with lions in the city, but he also did not have the power to ban it. Carabinieri, police and firefighters took part in the operation to find the lion. Animal protection organizations have already made statements to protect the lion and ban the use of wild animals as exhibits in circuses. writes CNN Greece.
