South Korean Defense Minister Concerns Amid Hamas Invasion of Israel

South Korean Defense Minister Shin Won-sik fears an attack by the DPRK and calls for resuming monitoring of the movements of the North Korean military.

According to Al Jazeera, he plans to push for the suspension of the 2018 inter-Korean military agreement. In accordance with the agreements, the parties then created buffer zones along land and sea borders, and no-fly zones over the border to prevent clashes.

Shin Won Sik is especially critical of no-fly zones. In his opinion, they are preventing South Korea from fully using its air surveillance capabilities, while the North Korean nuclear threat is growing.

The ongoing conflict between South Korea and North Korea may escalate. Seoul expressed concerns about a surprise attack from North Korea following a Hamas “scenario” that carried out armed invasion to Israel.
