White House Security Council Coordinator John Kirby assessed the Russian offensive at Avdievka on October 13.
How quotes his “Voice of America”, in the attack on Avdiivka the Russians are using human wave tactics, and Ukraine is acting “smartly”. According to him, the successes of the Russian military during the offensive at Liman and Avdeevka were “very meager,” the actions were unreasonable, and the offensive operation itself did not come as a surprise to the United States.
He noted that, similar to the previous offensive, the Russians are actively using “wave” tactics attacks“, throwing poorly trained soldiers into Ukrainian positions without appropriate military equipment. At the same time, Ukraine is “fighting effectively and intelligently”:
“The Ukrainians are working hard to repel these offensive maneuvers. The progress of Russian units, even where there is progress, looks very meager.”
Kirby stressed that the Russian attack shows that the United States must continue to support Ukraine: “That is why it is extremely important that Congress adhere to its commitment to the Ukrainian people and take measures to maintain our support.”
In its turn Institute for the Study of War (ISW) believes that Russian offensive operations in the Avdeevka area of the Donetsk region on October 13 failed.
