The head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, drew the attention of the Russians that in the conditions of the Northern Military District, elections, which should be held in March 2024, cannot be held. As a last resort, you can nominate just one candidate. Guess who?
How reports publication “Current Time”, the Chechen president said this at a rally dedicated to the birthday of President Vladimir Putin in Grozny:
“I believe that during the SVO [так российские власти называют вторжение РФ в Украину] There should be no talk of any presidential elections in Russia. It is quite obvious that many unfriendly countries, including the entire collective West, will take advantage of such a large-scale event and will use it for provocations. Our enemies will try to shake up the situation within the state.”
As an alternative, Kadyrov proposed voting for a single candidate – the current President of the Russian Federation. It is worth recalling that the Russian Constitution provides for the possibility of canceling elections in the event of martial law being declared. It is now operating in the occupied territories of Donetsk, Lugansk, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions of Ukraine. Russia does not completely control the territories, but considers them Russian, with the rights of individual subjects of the Russian Federation. Despite the martial law, the Russian authorities held “elections” to the legislative assembly here.
In 2018, Vladimir Putin became president for the fourth time. In the summer of 2020, amendments to the constitution were adopted in Russia, which will allow him to run for the post of head of state twice more and remain in power until 2036.
