Greece "threw": Türkiye announced joint drilling with Israel in the Eastern Mediterranean

Turkey and Israel have reached an agreement that changes the balance of power: President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced that the two countries will jointly drill for hydrocarbons in the Eastern Mediterranean.

According to the Turkish president, the ultimate goal is to create routes through which energy from the Eastern Mediterranean will flow to Europe through Turkey. Erdogan, as reported by Turkish journalist Ragip Soylu, proposed creating a cooperation scheme between Turkey and Israel with the participation of the ministers of energy, industry and tourism of the two countries in order to deepen Turkish-Israeli cooperation.

Erdogan said Turkey and Israel are planning joint energy drilling in the Eastern Mediterranean – he hopes to create energy transmission lines between Turkey, Israel and Europe. At a meeting with Netanyahu, Erdogan proposed creating a new mechanism for interaction with Israel, including the ministers of energy, industry and tourism, to deepen cooperation – Netanyahu and Erdogan will visit each other’s countries.

As part of contacts at the 78th UN General Assembly, we held a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Let our consultations be useful for our country and our region.

Let us recall that the leaders of Turkey and Israel held a bilateral meeting yesterday in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

After more than a decade of bilateral tensions, relations between Turkey and Israel have been revived by a series of visits by senior officials, including a visit by Jewish state President Isaac Herzog to Ankara last year.

Let us recall that in early August, after a meeting in Tel Aviv with his Israeli counterpart Yoav Galad, Greek Defense Minister Nikos Dendias announced Greece’s readiness to “enrich defense-industrial cooperation” with Israel “to the mutual benefit of the societies and economies of both countries.”

In turn, Galad, as reported by the AP, mentioned the “strong ties of cooperation” between the two countries and noted that “Israel and Greece are joining forces to ensure stability and security throughout the region.”

“Our defense cooperation covers many areas,” he added, “our defense-industrial cooperation contributes not only to security, but also to the economies of both countries.”

But here’s “security in the wider region”, since, apparently, Netanyahu and Erdogan agreed on other things at the meeting in New York, simply abandoning Greece…
