On the eve of the start of the new school year on September 11, the Ministry of Education declares its full readiness.

The authorities took care in advance of recruiting staff for schools. This year’s teaching force represents 3,700 new permanent teachers, adding to the 28,500 hired over the previous three years. In the field of special education (to teach children with disabilities), 7,360 elementary school teachers and 1,976 secondary school teachers were hired.

According to the Ministry of Education, in the 2023-2024 school year, students in full-day elementary schools, where the updated program is being implemented, will be able to leave not only at 15:50 or 17:30, but also at 14:55. This is for the convenience of parents and guardians. The new timetable applies to all primary schools across the country.

As reported, for the 2023-24 school year, 10 elementary kindergarten schools were created, 36 were liquidated, 30 were merged, 79 were demoted, and 51 elementary kindergarten schools were upgraded.

In terms of academic year planning, the start and end dates as well as the 2024 national examinations syllabus are expected to be released by September 15.

The opening of schools in Thessaly will be delayed by 1 week. The decision was made after a consultation between Education Minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis and Thessaly Governor Costas Agorastos. The postponement will occur due to unfavorable weather conditions, and in particular Cyclone Daniel.
