Putin threatened a tough response for the destruction of the Crimean bridge

Russian President Vladimir Putin promised that Russia would avenge yesterday’s attack on the Kerch bridge:

“Of course, there will be a response from Russia. The Ministry of Defense is preparing appropriate proposals.”

He stated that the attack on the bridge was of “no significance” since weapons and ammunition had not been transported through it “for a long time” and stressed that he considered the bombing of the bridge a terrorist act. During a special meeting on the explosion, Putin wanted to see “concrete proposals” to improve his security, writes RIA Novosti, he turned to his subordinates:

“Considering that this is the second terrorist attack on the Crimean bridge, I am waiting for specific proposals to improve the security of this strategically important transport facility.”

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin assured Putin that the bridge piers were not damaged in the explosion. At the same time, one span of the road part of the bridge cannot be restored.

How recalls “UP”, at three o’clock in the morning from Sunday to Monday, an attack was made on the Kerch bridge connecting Crimea with the territory of the Russian Federation. Interlocutors of the publication in the Security Service of Ukraine reported that the strike was a joint special operation of the SBU and the Navy, and bridge attacked using surface drones.

Russian media reported that there were two drones. As a result of their attack, one of the spans of the bridge tilted. Automobile traffic on the bridge is closed, and the ferry service between Kerch and the Russian Federation has ceased to function. The flow of cars was directed to a detour in the occupied mainland Ukraine.

Experts assure that it will be possible to launch two-way traffic on one side of the Crimean bridge on September 15, and on the other side – in November, while one span cannot be restored and will be dismantled.

It is planned to launch traffic on the Kerch bridge in reverse mode along one lane – on July 17 at midnight, the first test trucks will be launched, if everything goes well, passenger cars will be launched from one in the morning.

Khusnullin said that it was impossible to use floating cranes to approach the damaged support and that a temporary bridge would have to be built for the work.

Specialists of the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) appreciated the consequences the destruction of the Crimean bridge, which, in their opinion, hinders Russian logistics from Crimea to the rear areas of the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions. The report points out that the attack on the bridge across the Kerch Strait on July 17 is likely to have further consequences for Russian logistics in southern Ukraine.
