The tax office is launching a flurry of checks on all those who declared a family income of up to 10,000 euros in 2021.
About 3.8 million taxpayers are expected to “take on the pencil.” According to officials from the independent body, there are (still unknown number) cases that cover up massive tax evasion. Concerning those who are suspected of it, check will follow in the autumn.
According to the recently released ΑΑΔΕ statistics on tax returns for 2021, almost seven out of ten self-employed professionals, as well as six out of ten households, appear in the tax office with incomes not exceeding 10,000 euros.
The concern of the control and auditing bodies mainly concerns the self-employed, who declare low net income, as a result of which the tax they pay is extremely small. Characteristically, freelancers declared a total taxable income of €4.3 billion last year, while according to ELSTAT, their turnover is almost ten times greater. In this context, and using all available information, ΑΑΔΕ will proceed with “cross-checks”.
