Shipping companies announce discounts on ferry tickets

On Thursday, Greek coastal shipping companies began offering discounts of up to 50% on passenger ferry tickets departing from the ports of Piraeus, Rafina, Thessaloniki and Kavala.

Shipping companies reacted quickly to the decision after meeting with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, where they were asked to cut travel costs for the average Greek family to make their summer vacation easier.

Attica Groupwho owns companies Blue Star Friries and Hellenic Seaways announced ticket discounts of about 20% for a family of up to five people with a car in all directions to and from Piraeus, and increased the discount on social tourist tickets from 25% to 50%.

SeaJets also announced additional discounts after lowering ticket prices by up to 19% in May. She offered a discount of up to 30% for families of four with a car and 20% for residents of the Aegean islands, and for permanent residents of the Dodecanese, 40% on the Sitia-Dodecanese line. Discounts are valid when buying tickets from July 18 and for trips through September 18 inclusive.

The company also said it is currently working with relevant ministries to offer a 15% discount for Market Pass holders. The offer will be activated within 5 working days from the moment the working interface with the Market Pass registration system appears.

Golden Star Ferries announced a 20% discount on all tickets for the period from July 17 to September 10, every Tuesday, for individual tickets (economy and premium, as well as airplane-type seats), for cars and two-wheelers.

Fast Ferries offers discounts on passenger ferry tickets in an effort to increase the flow of passengers to the islands it serves with its routes. In its announcement, the company says it’s setting up a “truck discount day.” From 19/7/2023 until 6/9/2023 every Wednesday Fast Ferries will be offering 20% discounts on all their routes from Rafina to Andros, Tinos, Mykonos, Naxos and also on the return routes to Rafina.

The discount is valid on all routes from / to Rafina, on all passenger seats, as well as on tickets for cars and motorcycles. It should also be noted that Fast Ferries for a number of years offers, in addition to the mandatory, significant commercial discounts on their routes throughout the season, such as:

  • 30% discount on tickets for passengers with three children.
  • 25% discount on tickets for persons in uniform (military and security forces). The discount also applies to their vehicle.
  • 25% discount for National Public Transportation Authority retirees.
  • 30% discount on return tickets for trips on the same day.
  • 50% discount for children aged 6 to 10 years.
  • 50% discount for all sports and cultural associations of the islands on travel to Rafina and back, as well as between the islands.

Fast Ferries, as part of its “Fast Friends” customer loyalty program, by accumulating the corresponding points, offers the possibility of providing discounted or free tickets.

PS Very good political move. First, carriers raise prices by almost 2 times due to fuel prices (fuel crisis in 2022), and after the fuel price returns to its previous level, prices do not fall. Then comes Kyriakos Mitsotakis, who “resolves” the situation and gets a political profit. As well as shipping companies, which have already received prepayment for tickets at the old price, and the discount is noticeably less than the previous shipping prices. In the parliaments of some countries, probably, there would be deputies who would raise the issue of collusion. But we are in Greece…
