Signs prohibiting nudism on Gavdos beach have disappeared

“Nudism is prohibited” signs have disappeared from the Sarakiniko beach in Gavdos, where they were placed by the municipality, sparking an outcry on social media.

This happened becauseOMost of the visitors to the island every year combine Gavdos with their hobby, namely nudism. In fact, this southernmost island of Greece is mecca of nudism.

Therefore, today, those who visited this beach did not see signs offensive to them, as someone removed them the night before. In fact, one of them lies in the middle of the beach, and the second was simply absent.

According to neakriti.gr, only on the poles on which the signs were hung was a phrase that some bathers did not like: “Nudism is prohibited.”

The municipality of Gavdos even made a Facebook post about the disappearance of the signs, where, among other things, they indicated that they had taken all the actions due for the theft of municipal property, while adding that the signs would be replaced immediately.

Municipality post on FB:
“Over the past few days, we have again discovered that a small part of the people DO NOT KNOW (there is no other explanation!) that there are residents and a local community in Gavdos. This time, this group believes that we Gavdos are not capable of deciding what we want for the beaches of our island, we need mentors and advocates. Therefore, they considered it necessary to steal the signs set up in Sarakiniko regarding nudism. Let’s reiterate that there are residents and services on GAVDOS who must do whatever is necessary to support the island and its inhabitants.

The city has taken all necessary measures regarding the theft of municipal property, the signs are immediately replaced, and the police are making sure that the local community complies with the decision. We remind you that there are many beaches for lovers of nudism. Happy summer everyone!”

PS I do not know how the mayor’s office and the inhabitants of the island will react, who, according to the mayor, Ms. Lilian Stefanaki, protested against nudismwhen the number of tourists decreases sharply due to the ban. After all, 90% of the guests of the island go to this remote piece of land in Libyan Sea precisely for the possibility of a nudist holiday. Will local residents and hoteliers then tear their hair out in the wrong place, reproaching themselves and the mayor for the hasty decision.
