Inflation in Greece is expected to slow further in June compared to the corresponding month a year earlier, according to preliminary data released on Friday by the European Union’s official statistical service, Eurostat.
In June, consumer prices fell to 2.7% from 4.1%, while on a monthly basis they rose by 0.9%. At the same time, year-on-year inflation in the euro area also slowed down, reaching 5.5% from 6.1% in May, and it increased by 0.3% on a monthly basis.
Contradictory picture regarding structural inflation (from which energy prices are excluded). There was an increase in food prices, up 5.4% year on year (compared to 5.5% a month earlier). On a monthly basis, the rate was fixed at 0.3% (from 0.2%).
It should be noted that Eurostat’s preliminary estimates of the course of inflation turned out to be lower than forecasts, as it was expected to be 5.6% on an annualized basis, structural inflation of 5.5% per year and 0.7% per month. The only indicator that exceeded expectations at 0% was the overall monthly inflation.
