So, for many civil partners – of different or same sex – a lot of problems were solved, starting with a residence permit for those who visited Greece only on a visa or an entry stamp in a foreign passport, and ending with property and inheritance issues that often worry and puzzle people who are unable to marry because of their gender or nationality.
One of the main conditions for concluding a cohabitation agreement is the legal stay of a third-country national in Greece, that is, an already existing residence permit of a different category, an entry stamp allowing the foreigner to stay in the country for three months, or a valid entry visa issued by a Greek consular office or another Schengen country. In addition, both parties to the cohabitation agreement must be free from the bonds of marriage and not be in another civil union like this.
An agreement drawn up by a notary and signed in his presence must be registered at the registry office at the place of residence of the couple, in confirmation of which a corresponding certificate will be issued to civil partners.
