Wild boars… grazing in Thessaloniki

Wild boars, peacefully grazing on the lawn near the church, were caught by stupefied passers-by.

Boars were at the temple of Kyanos Stavros (Κυανό Σταυρό στις 40 Εκκλησιές). And this is not the first time that wild boars have been spotted in the center of Thessaloniki. The first time was last winter, when a wild boar was seen in Aristotelous. And earlier they noticed only in Panorama and Pylaea.

Recall: wild animals in the city are no joke at all! The number of reports received by the authorities in 2022 is almost three times higher than in 2021.

We remind you to avoid encounters with wild boars:
• maintain cleanliness and order in the yards of private houses,
• do not throw away food in places not intended for this,
• Garbage bins near households should be closed so that the wild boar cannot get into them and smell the food.

When it comes to meeting a boar:
• if you spot a wild boar (and if it didn’t spot you), move away without making sudden movements,
• do not run away as this may provoke the animal to attack,
• Do not pet, feed or approach a wild boar, which, while giving the impression of a tamed animal, can still be dangerous.
