An earthquake of magnitude 4.8 in central Greece, which was also felt in Athens

An earthquake measuring 4.8 on the Richter scale hit Atalanti, central Greece this afternoon Thursday. Due to its shallow depth of focus of 10 km, it was also felt in Athens, which is located at a distance of about 98 km from the epicenter of the shock.

The epicenter of the shock was 9.5 km southwest of Atalanti in Fthiotida and 18 km north-northeast of Livadia in the prefecture of Viotia.

No injuries or property damage have yet been reported, half an hour after the 3:34 p.m. quake on Thursday.

It is worth noting that several seismological institutes give different magnitudes, the last of which recorded an earthquake in Atalanti with a magnitude of 4.9 points.

The quake happened on the famous Atalanti Fault Line, and Efthymios Lekkas, head of earthquake protection and planning, said newsit.gr that “seismologists are closely monitoring this phenomenon.

Lekkas added that there are no problems in the area.
