US President Joe Biden is “fine” after falling at an event in Colorado, White House officials said.
The 80-year-old head of state stumbled upon a sandbag during his graduation ceremony at the US Air Force Academy. The country’s oldest ever president was helped back on his feet and appeared to be unharmed after falling on Thursday. writes Air Force. Biden, returning to the White House, joked to reporters:
“I got into a sandbag!”
However, the explanation is quite simple – the president stood for about an hour and a half to personally shake hands with each of the 921 graduate cadets, which is not easy at his age. In the footage of the video, Mr. Biden appears to be pointing at one of two sandbags used to support his teleprompter while he was assisted by an Air Force official and two Secret Service operatives.
He returned to his seat without assistance, and then even ran back to his motorcade when the ceremony was over. White House Communications Director Ben LaBolt tweeted:
“When he shook hands, there was a sandbag on stage. He’s fine.”
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said Biden boarded the plane smiling broadly, although one reporter noted that he did not answer questions before the flight.
