Filming for “Return” wrapped up in Corfu

Filming for the Homer’s Odyssey-inspired drama, starring Ralph Fiennes as Odysseus and Juliette Binoche as Penelope, wraps up at the end of the month on the Ionian island of Corfu, state broadcaster ERT reported on Tuesday.

The Return, directed by Uberto Pasolini, is written by Edward Bond and John Colley, who focused on the period of the ancient Greek epic, from the moment Odysseus washed ashore in Ithaca.

After twenty years of wandering, Odysseus (Fiennes) arrives at Ithaca, stunned and unrecognizable. The king has finally returned home, but much has changed in his kingdom since he went to fight in the Trojan War. His beloved wife Penelope (Binoche) is now a prisoner in her home, pursued by ambitious suitors and forced to choose a new husband and king.

Their son Telemachus (Plummer), who grew up without a father, is in danger, threatened by suitors who see him as an obstacle in their relentless pursuit of Penelope and the kingdom. But Odysseus also changed. Wounded by the experience of war, he is no longer a fearless warrior. But he will have to face his past in order to regain the strength he needs to save his family and return his lost love.

The Return is produced by Uberto Pasolini and James Clayton for Red Wave Films, Roberto Sessa for Picomedia with Rai Cinema, Stéphane Moatti, Romain Le Grand, Vivien Aslanian and Marco Paccioni for Kabo Films and Marvelous Production, Georgos Karnavas and Konstantinos Kontovrakis for the Greek studio Heretic. Andrew Karpen and Kent Sanderson will executive produce Bleecker Street.

The Return is scheduled for release in North America in 2024. It includes places in different parts of the Peloponnese as well as iconic places in Corfu.
