ΚΕΕΡΦА: "This is racist violence and employer terrorism"

In the Athens district of Kallithea, a gas station worker was attacked by a robber, but managed to detain him. In gratitude, the employer … fired him without payment of wages and filed a complaint with the police with a request for his deportation.

A worker in Krini Farsalon (Κρήνη Φαρσάλων), an immigrant from Pakistan, was left without a job, without wages and under the threat of departation. About what happened writes aftodioikisi.gr, says in the statement associations against racism and discrimination). As emphasized by the organization, this is a typical case of “racist violence and employer terrorism among dozens of others”:

“A migrant in Kallithea saved a gas station from being robbed, but his boss fired him! On April 18, the migrant asked for unpaid wages, but in response, the boss beat him. The Theodorikakos police handled the case of racist violence in the way they used to, covering up employers. In addition, the “pockets” of the police in the area where the Golden Dawn was going to become the third force in 2019 were and remain active.

But the case of immigrant Fiaz Mohamad being stabbed by a robber at a Revoil gas station in Kallithea is unprecedented. On April 23, 2023, a man attacked a gas station in Kallithea. Fiaz Mohamad, a Pakistani immigrant who worked a 12-hour shift at a gas station, was attacked by a mugger who slashed the tendons in his arm with a knife. Despite being seriously injured, Fiaz managed to immobilize the robber, who was immediately arrested. Fiaz was hospitalized for 3 days, and due to the severity of his injuries, he was granted sick leave for 2 months, as he is currently unable to work.

While the immigrant Fiaz saved his bosses’ venture, they fired him instead of thanking him. The dismissal is clearly illegal. This is an accident at work and the employee is on 60 days sick leave. This is another case of racist violence and employer terrorism among dozens of others, when bosses declare their hired migrants as part-time workers, they work 12 hour shifts, and when they risk their lives to protect the business, bosses fire them!

The bosses have the audacity to be so callous and racist towards migrants, in line with the policy of the Mitsotakis government. Instead of legalization and residence permits for migrants, asylum for refugees, large-scale operations began throughout the country with mass arrests and imprisonment of migrants and refugees in camps, erecting fences at the borders, drowning migrants and refugees in the Aegean Sea with the help of illegal “push” .

We demand the immediate cancellation of the dismissal of Fiaz Mohamad, we demand that the deportation of Sajat Ali, a migrant worker from Farsala, be stopped. We ask unions to support migrant worker Fiaz Mohamad in his demands against his boss. We demand legalization, residence and work permits for all migrants, because this is the only way to stop the savagery and callousness of the bosses.

From the coordinating committee of ΚΕΕΡΦΑ – Petros Konstantinou, member of the Athens City Hall, and Dimitris Zotos, advocate for victims of racist violence.”
