The father of a 5.5-month-old baby who was “forgotten” and died in a locked car was taken to the court of first instance in Arta for an apology. What happened on that fateful day.
Accused of manslaughter killing his son, whom he left for many hours in the car in Arta, wept continuously in court. He blamed himself and said that it would be better if he died, and not his baby. The man apologized in writing, describing the tragic events of that day:
“The child fell asleep in the child seat in the car. Instead of turning left at the kindergarten, I turned right and drove to work. “Where is our child, I replied that in the nursery. She told me that she was there and she was informed that the child did not come. Then I realized that I did not pick him up from the car. I went outside and got to my car. My child was dead…”.
After admitting his guilt, the father was released on parole, with a ban on leaving the country. His lawyer called the decision correct, stating that he had lost awareness of the child’s existence and that his memory had stopped working. He is charged with negligent homicide.
The 37-year-old defendant arrived at the Arta Magistrate’s office yesterday shortly after 09:00, visibly subdued, his bowed head covered by a hood. Next to him were his colleagues, who gathered outside the courthouse in a show of support. They told reporters that they were shocked by what had happened: he was a very good person, a colleague, and they pray with him.
According to sources, the 27-year-old wife of the accused expressed a desire to be with him at the interrogation, but this did not happen. The funeral of the unfortunate baby will take place today in Arta, writes CNN Greece.
