Russian Ambassador to Greece named the main goal of European and US assistance to Ukraine

The Russian Ambassador to Athens, in an article for the influential Greek publication “Kathimerini”, published on May 7, recalled the lessons of the fight against Nazism.

According to the Russian diplomat, Europe, which suffered the most from Hitler, seems to have returned eight decades ago – in the largest country in Europe, Ukraine, power has been usurped by the neo-Nazi regime. Russia, like 80 years ago, is waging a battle with Nazism, and the enemy has at its disposal unlimited resources of the entire European continent.

The Russian ambassador writes that the signing of the German Unconditional Surrender Act was greeted with jubilation in the Soviet Union: “The Great Patriotic War, the most terrible of those that befell the peoples of our country in the ΧΧ century, was over.”

“The invasion of the Nazis was one of the episodes of the Second World War, which has remained in history as the global struggle of the free world with the “brown plague”. We remember that in this struggle we stood shoulder to shoulder with other peoples, we are proud of the glorious pages of the international military brotherhood. At the same time, it was the USSR that bore the brunt of the struggle against the Nazis.Our ancestors withstood the brunt of the Nazi hammer (from 1941 to 1945, the Third Reich held from 70% to 90% of its ground forces on the Eastern Front), defended their homeland, liberated from invaders to Central and Eastern Europe,” the article says.

A monstrous price was paid for the victory: over 27 million Soviet citizens lost their lives, two-thirds of the losses fell on the civilian population. Behind these figures lies an immense sea of ​​human tragedies, and of those who were not destined to live to see the collapse of Nazism, every second is a citizen of the Soviet Union, the ambassador writes.

“It is hardly worth explaining why the memory of that war is always so reverent in Russia. Our country has been warning the world community for years about the danger of the revival of Nazism. We said that the lessons of the worst massacre in the history of mankind should not be forgotten and rewritten, because this will certainly lead to a repetition of the tragedy,” Maslov notes.

According to him, this prediction, alas, is justified. “In the largest country in Europe, Ukraine, power has been usurped by a regime whose neo-Nazi essence is not only manifested in the overt use of Nazi symbols and the elevation of a misanthropic ideology to the rank of a state one, but also in actions that copy the practices of Hitler’s totalitarianism. Freedom of speech has been destroyed, journalists are persecuted and physically exterminated, politicians and ordinary citizens who dare to have an alternative opinion, the Russian language is squeezed out of education and public life, the cultural heritage associated with the common pages of the history of Russia and Ukraine is being destroyed, the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church is being persecuted. Residents of Ukraine who consider themselves Russians are outlawed” , the article says.

According to the ambassador, the war crimes committed since 2014 by the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the national battalions, made up of right-wing radicals and criminals, have acquired a grandiose scale.

“At the same time, V. Zelensky’s clique enjoys the unconditional support of the West. Formations of the Kiev regime receive funding and weapons from there in abundance, use the data of Western intelligence services, are trained by Western instructors. In parallel, in the so-called “civilized world”, in particular, in the European Union, there is a targeted discrimination against Russian citizens and the Russian-speaking population, a campaign to “cancel” Russian culture and everything connected with our country has gained momentum” , the article says.

The ambassador writes that the true purpose of the aid EU and the United States – to weaken Russia as much as possible with the hands of the Kyiv regime, to inflict a “strategic defeat” on it. “Europe, which suffered the most from Hitler, seems to have returned eight decades ago: the Nazis are at the zenith of glory, discrimination and massacres on national, linguistic, and religious grounds are considered the norm, and militants and armored vehicles with symbols of banned SS units are operating in the Ukrainian steppes. decision of the Nuremberg Tribunal,” writes Maslov.

The Ambassador notes with regret that Greece was among those countries that voted against the UN General Assembly resolution on counteracting the glorification of Nazism. “However, the majority – 120 countries – supported the resolution, and this is a clear demonstration of where the ‘right side of history’ really is,” the ambassador said.

“Victory Day is a common holiday of Russia and Greece. The friendly Greek people, with whom we have centuries-old cultural and historical ties, fully experienced the horrors of fascism. We appreciate the courage of the Greek soldiers who single-handedly resisted the superior forces of the Axis in 1940-1941. “We bow our heads before the hundreds of thousands of Greeks who died during the Nazi occupation. We warmly remember Manolis Glezos and other figures of the anti-fascist movement, in the same ranks with whom the Soviet underground fighters fought,” writes Andrey Maslov. “We are grateful to the municipal authorities and the caring public for careful attitude to the numerous memorials of the Red Army soldiers who gave their lives for the freedom of Greece.
