The serving of the dessert caused a fire on Friday at an Italian restaurant in Madrid’s Salamanca district, in Manuel Becerra Square.
At around 11:00 pm, a fire broke out at the Burro Canaglia Bar&Resto, probably when the waiter set the dessert on fire. This action caused a flame that quickly reached the roof of the room – it, like the walls, was richly decorated with artificial plants.
According to eyewitnesses, the roof completely caught fire “in a matter of seconds.” However, there is no official announcement yet, the police say that “no hypothesis about the origin of the fire can be ruled out” and are considering various versions of the causes of the tragic incident. Law enforcement officers do not exclude the presence of other sources of origin of the fire.
Spanish edition of “20 minutes” informsthat two people died and ten more were injured. The place where the flames broke out was near the exit, so only the customers who were at the door could quickly get out. The rest were trapped in flames. Some took refuge in the kitchen, others were able to escape through the emergency door, and on the street, pedestrians, seeing that people were in a fiery captivity, tried to break the windows on the facade of the room so that they could escape.
It is known about the dead that they are two young people, one of them is a restaurant worker.
