Easter 2023: ferries leave Piraeus packed to capacity

On April 12, the departure of Easter vacationers began, and the occupancy of ferries from Greek ports reached 100%. Piraeus Port is expected to peak on Good Thursday and Good Friday.

Meanwhile, traffic police are conducting intensive checks on Easter tourists traveling to the region by car. Some travelers have already left since Sunday (9/4), as according to the first data, 9122 passengers left Piraeus, about 2300 passengers from the port of Rafina, 576 passengers from Lavrio, and about 4000 passengers went to the Argosaronicos Islands.

Traffic police measures for Easter travelers:

  • On the country’s road network, traffic police measures will be strengthened to ensure the safe movement of Easter tourists.
  • The travel measures will be in effect from Friday 7 April to Sunday 23 April, that is, during the entire period of the Easter holidays when people will be traveling.

According to the announcement, the planning of measures, which was carried out within the framework of the strategic planning of the Hellenic Police Headquarters, includes:

  • protection of the road network by sector, based on the specific traffic conditions in each area,
  • increasing the presence of the police and strengthening the protection of order in those parts of the road network where there is a high frequency of road accidents,
  • strengthening measures to regulate traffic at the entrances / exits from large urban centers where there is heavy traffic,
  • regulation of traffic with pedestrian traffic lights at key intersections to avoid congestion,
  • strengthening measures to regulate traffic in places where there is a large volume of passenger traffic (airports, ports, stations, etc.),
  • rules of the road in the places of celebrations,
  • the presence of traffic officers at toll booths in the country to facilitate traffic,
  • providing information and advice to drivers and passengers,
  • informing citizens through the press services in all cases when there is a need to widely inform the public about the existence of any road and other problems.

At the same time, during the implementation of these measures, both the personnel and the means of the Greek police, mainly the traffic police, will be on high alert. In particular, patrol cars, motorcycles and other vehicles will be provided with appropriate personnel and equipment to effectively guard the country’s road network.
