Preveza invites you to spend Easter here

Preveza is one of the best destinations in Greece, capable of delivering many unforgettable experiences to the traveler.

Endless beaches, archaeological sites, entertainment venues and affordable quality food make this place one of the top tourist destinations in Greece. Surrounded by water where the Ionian Sea joins the Gulf of Ambracia, the coastal town of Preveza in northwestern Greece offers plenty of opportunities to explore, take short excursions and, in summer, swim in crystal clear waters. And of course, in all seasons – delicious food.

This place is famous for its fish and seafood, and important cultural monuments highlight its rich history. The historic center of the city, with narrow streets and architectural monuments, is ideal for daytime walks, and evening walks along the port esplanade will be a real pleasure.

The ancient Roman city of Nikopol, located about 5 km north of Preveza and dating back to 31 BC, is open every day (except Tuesday) from 8:00 to 20:00 (admission fee 8 euros). It is the best preserved Roman city in Greece with impressive ruins of Roman walls, houses, an odeon or musical theatre, a stadium and a theatre.

Last summer, Monolithi Beach in Preveza gained worldwide fame after being named the safest beach on the continent by the European Commission’s European Best Destinations. Its length is 22 km, and its width reaches 80 meters. The water in it is clean, and the sand is slightly coarse-grained with pebbles.

The nearest beach to the city is Kiyani-Akti, which is also good for relaxation. Locals prefer to visit it on windy days, as there are rarely choppy waters and waves. Fine sand, gentle slope into the sea, shallow water. In addition, there is a beautiful park right behind the beach.

Locals can be seen here playing the French ball game (petanque), also known as abali (probably a holdover from the Venetian era).

Monument to Zalongo
Heading along the winding road to Mount Zalongo, from afar you can see the magnificent monumental sculpture of George Zongolopoulos called “The Dance of Zalongo”. It was erected on top of a cliff in 1961 to commemorate the mass suicide of the women and children of Suli in 1803. Persecuted by the Ottomans, mothers took their children by the hands and rushed off the cliff. The uphill road leading to the monument takes about 20 minutes.
