Weather: be careful in Attica today

Sakis Arnautoglu tells about the development of the phenomena of cyclone Ilina and warns EMY. The weather is expected to worsen from Thursday.

Meteorologist Sakis Arnautoglu notes that the most intense manifestations of bad weather today will be observed in eastern Macedonia and Thrace. The southern and eastern Peloponnese, Attica, Evia, Sporades, Lesbos and Chios will experience showers and storms.

In Attica, the effects will be intense from dawn, but they will begin to subside in the afternoon, and will cease by evening. Unstable weather is expected in Thessaloniki, rains and storms will subside in the afternoon.

On Wednesday, the weather will improve, and from Thursday there will be a new change that will move from west to east. Cold air masses will lower the temperature. With the exception of northern Greece, bad weather will again reign in the country, and snow will fall in western Macedonia at an altitude of 800 meters. Snowfall will also occur in the rest of the Greek mainland in the mountains, at an altitude of 1000 to 1300 meters.

From Friday, the weather will improve, and in more southern areas it will get warmer over the weekend.

EMY has updated its emergency weather bulletin with the latest forecast data. Today, local heavy rains and thunderstorms are forecast intermittently in eastern Macedonia, Thrace, the islands of the northern and eastern Aegean and the Dodecanese. In the morning, showers and thunderstorms in the Cyclades, Crete, south of Evia and south of the Peloponnese, until noon – in central Macedonia.

South wind in the east and south of the country, with a force of 5 to 7 points on the Beaufort scale, in the morning hours in the Kastellorizo ​​area up to 8 points. In the rest of the country, the wind is north / northwest, from 4 to 6 points, in the Ionian Sea in some places up to 7 points on the Beaufort scale.

The air temperature will drop slightly: 12-15°С in the north, 19°С in the east and south, 16-18°С in the rest of the country.
