Lenten table "from gold": prices for lagoon, squid, halva, small fish roe and olives

This year’s “lean” table promises to spoil your mood a bit, as the prices of traditional foods eaten during this period “bite”.

In particular, the cost of a lagan flatbread is 1.5-2 euros more expensive compared to last year and reaches 5 euros. What can not be said about moderate prices for seafood and halva, which fluctuate at the same level as last year. After being inspected by reporters Dnews the central market of Athens, fish shops and shops selling halva, pickled cucumbers and taramos (roe of small fish), a detailed report was received. The resulting actual prices are as follows:

Seafood (per kg)

  • Squids cost from 7 to 14 euros.
  • Shrimps from 4 to 14 euros depending on the size.
  • Cuttlefish from 10 to 11 euros.
  • Octopuses from 18 to 22 euros.
  • Crabs – from 10 euros.
  • Oysters cost from 15 euros and up.
  • Mussels cost 5 euros.
  • Lobster from 28 to 35 euros.

“We try to keep the best prices, knowing the economic situation in the world. In addition to us, weather affects price fluctuations. Since summer has prevailed in recent days, we can get the products we sell cheaper, ”a worker at a fish shop in Varvakeyo told Dnews.

At least 35-40% price increase per lagoon

The price of lagana is “touching”: a lean flatbread will cost only… 5 euros, which is 1.5-2 euros more expensive than last year. In the current, according to Dnews, bakers, due to the increase in prices for raw materials, “Lagana on Clean Monday” will be sold from 4 to 5 euros per kilogram.

Halva

Prices for halva vary depending on taste. Prices start from 11.60 euros. For example, the classic Drapetsonas halva costs 11.60 euros, the same for chocolate. With almonds – 11.80 euros, and in combination with chocolate – 12.80 euros. At the same price of 12.80, this is with brown sugar biscuit and almonds. 12.90 halva with carob honey and almonds. The classic drink with stevia (sugar substitute) costs 16.80 euros, and with cocoa and stevia 16.90 euros.

Pickles, taramas and olives

Pickles are sold at 4.50 euros per kilo. The white tarama costs about 17.80€, the same price as last year, and the red tarama costs 5.80€. A ready-made salad (ταραμοσαλάτα) costs 9.90 euros per kilogram, which is slightly more expensive than last year. Olive prices range from 5.80 to 7 euros depending on the variety.

Consumers characterize prices at the Varvakey fish market as satisfactory, but with the caveat that prices are likely to rise as the holiday approaches.
