The glasses of former PASOK Prime Minister and President Andreas Papandreou will be put up for auction. The resulting amount will be donated to charity by his family.
His son Nikos Papandreou donated the glasses to Marina Verniku’s Create organization, and the proceeds from their sale will be donated to Ελπίδα. “I think Andreas would like something like that. I don’t think he took things seriously in his life, he didn’t have that craziness. But for a good cause, there is value in such a thing. It’s not that we, his family, are parting with any legacy. There is probably someone who would like to have something, a personal thing from his life,” said Nikos Papandreou on ANT1.
He explained that there is a “craze” going on with his father and PASOK today and he believes now is a good time to auction such a property. “Especially today, when there is a passion for Andreas’s past. We don’t have many objects, we have a file with performances, photos. There are few objects, glasses, smoking pipes (…). He (father) sometimes said to me: “If you want my glasses, take them.”
When asked about the price at which the personal item is expected to be sold, Nikos noted that “if they go for 10,000 euros, I will be happy.”
