An incredible fraud case involving criminals posing as Keanu Reeves in order to deceive a 60-year-old woman was investigated by the authorities of Crete.
According to ERT, the victim was contacted via Instagram by a man who introduced himself as the famous Hollywood actor Keanu Reeves. In fact, he allegedly told her that in order to get the rights to the film in which he starred, he had to pay taxes due in the United States, he had no money. Thus, he asked her to give him money, which he promised, according to her, to return “with interest.”
The woman was convinced that a Hollywood playboy was writing to her and gradually transferred a total of 150,000 euros to foreign bank accounts. When the naive lady found out that she had been deceived, she reported this to the police, claiming that shrewd people managed to take the money inherited from her relatives. Following the path of the sums, the police managed to find traces of the criminals. Law enforcement has filed a case against six people – a local Greek woman and five Nigerians – who are awaiting arrest warrants. A preliminary investigation is being conducted by the Heraklion Police Department.
