Teen dies of heart attack in his sleep

Today, Wednesday, January 11, the funeral of a 16-year-old teenager who died of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy in his sleep will take place in Elis (Ancient Olympia).

The news of the girl’s death shocked both the public and the sports federation.
. According to preliminary information, the girl was training, but at some point she became ill and fell down. A doctor, who was next to the stadium, arrived in time to her, who gave her first aid (CARPA, cardiopulmonary resuscitation). He then called EKAB and the young athlete was taken to Komotini General Hospital “Sismanogleio”. However, the doctors pronounced the girl dead. A relative, the girl’s aunt, told the MEGA channel that exactly

According to Patrisnews.gr, the funeral of the young man will take place at 10:30, relatives and friends say goodbye to Dionysius at the Holy Resurrection Church in Lalos, Ancient Olympia municipality. After that, the teenager will be buried in the cemetery of the village of Potos.

The teen’s two brothers went to wake him up so he wouldn’t be late for school on Monday morning (January 9). It was then that they saw that he was unconscious in bed, for no matter how hard they tried, Dionysus did not answer. The two brothers, in shock, contacted their parents, who called EKAB, as well as a family friend.

“Dionisy’s father called me saying something was wrong with his son. I hurried to their house. The child was unconscious on the bed, I massaged him, but he had no pulse, his heart did not beat,” says village chairman Nikos Nikolakopoulos, describing to the newspaper “Patrice” minute by minute the dramatic events that he witnessed.

The head of the village drove the unfortunate teenager in his car to a certain point to be picked up by an EKAB ambulance, which was in a hurry to meet him, and delivered Dionysius to the Pyrgos hospital, where doctors simply pronounced him dead. “What a nightmare…. A 16-year-old child,” added Mr. Nikolacopoulos, shocked by the teenager’s death.

According to the forensic experts who performed the autopsy, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, a pathological condition of the heart (a hereditary disease in the family), was found.
