The President of Kazakhstan received the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece


President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev received Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Hellenic Republic Nikolaos Dendias, who is in Astana on an official visit, reports website Chords.

According to Akordy, during the meeting they discussed the prospects for the development of Kazakh-Greek cooperation with an emphasis on strengthening trade and economic ties.

According to the President, Greece is one of the important partners of our country among the states of the European Union. He also noted that Kazakhstan and Greece are actively cooperating on multilateral platforms.

“I would like to emphasize once again that relations with Greece are a priority for us. We will do our best to bring the indicators of mutual cooperation to a new level,” Kassym-Jomart Tokayev

In turn, the Greek Foreign Minister thanked Kassym-Jomart Tokayev for the opportunity to exchange views on bilateral and multilateral cooperation.

“I want to note that we consider Kazakhstan as the largest and priority country for us in Central Asia, which is the guarantor of stability in the region. Greece expresses its readiness for further mutually beneficial cooperation with your country,” Nikos Dendias

In addition, during the conversation, an exchange of views took place on topical issues of the international and regional agenda.

On the same day, extended talks were held between the heads of the foreign affairs agencies of Kazakhstan and Greece, Mukhtar Tleuberdi and Nikolaos Dendias, during which the parties discussed the current state and prospects for further development of bilateral cooperation. An exchange of views took place on issues of the global and regional agenda.

As Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan M. Tleuberdi noted:

“The Hellenic Republic is one of our important political and economic partners in Southern Europe. I am sure that the official visit of Minister Dendias to Kazakhstan will give an additional impetus to the further deepening of all-round cooperation between Astana and Athens, both in bilateral and multilateral formats.”

M. Tleuberdi and N. Dendias welcomed the establishment of the Kazakh-Greek Business Council this year (June 20, 2022, Athens), as well as the successful holding of the 5th meeting of the Kazakh-Greek Intergovernmental Commission on Economic and Technological Cooperation (October 19, 2022 ., Astana). Bilateral trade relations between Kazakhstan and Greece have a positive trend. Thus, for the ten months of 2022, bilateral trade amounted to 1.4 billion US dollars, which is 28% higher than in the same period of the previous year (1.06 billion US dollars).

The interlocutors especially noted the significant role of the “living bridge” between the countries – the ten thousandth Greek diaspora living in Kazakhstan. The country also has an Association of Greek Societies of Kazakhstan “Filia” (translated from Greek – “friendship”), which includes 17 regional societies that support Greek traditions, customs and language.

As a result of the negotiations, a Memorandum was signed between the foreign ministries of the two countries on cooperation in the field of training employees of the diplomatic service.
