France: Girl’s death found in suitcase sparks fierce migration debate

The brutal murder of a 12-year-old girl stirred up the whole of France and actualized the problem of the government’s immigration policy.

The debate about tightening immigration laws has flared up with renewed vigor, with this demand, led by former presidential candidate Eric Zemmour, hundreds of people took to the Place Danfert-Rochereau in Paris on Thursday. The right-wing and ultra-right parties of France are especially active in insisting on the adoption of the changes. The news that a 24-year-old illegal from Algeria is suspected in the murder of 12-year-old Lola, she is called in the media Dabia B. Aurelien Pradier, a member of the National Assembly from the “Republicans”, says:

“We all bear a collective responsibility. The country bears this responsibility. Now we are proposing options for solving the problem with a document that orders you to leave the territory of France, we are making decisions on psychiatry, which was destroyed in our country many years ago. We are asking all these questions.”

Jérôme Guedj, member of the National Assembly from the Socialist Party, however, believes:

“I’m absolutely willing to talk about the issue of immigration policy, but doing so under the emotional canopy of this drama is risky. It could affect the judgment of those who should legislate and make decisions.”

Earlier, the French authorities acknowledged that the government could act much more efficiently in matters of expulsion of illegal migrants from the country. Meanwhile, all of France continues to mourn along with the loved ones of the deceased 12-year-old Lola. The house where the girl lived is buried in flowers and soft toys.

Recall, the body of a child was discovered in the north of Paris last Friday. As part of the investigation into the murder, four people were arrested, including a woman who left the house where the girl lived with a heavy suitcase. On the body of the child – traces of violence and strange signs on the feet. At the end of the initial investigation, the police suspected that the murder of the child was related to the smuggling of human organs. The cause of death was determined to be strangulation. All four of those arrested are from Algeria.

The victim of the criminals disappeared on 14 October. Parents concerned about missing girl contacted the police. In the evening of the same day, they posted a photo of their daughter on Facebook and called for help from potential witnesses to her disappearance. On the morning of October 15, a suspected young woman was arrested in Bois-Colombes (Hauts-de-Seine). After an initial investigation, a 24-year-old man was taken into custody – his detained woman asked for help in transporting a large suitcase in his car.

The case under the article on the murder of a minor under the age of 15 was initiated and transferred to the Parisian criminal brigade, which is investigating. As of October 16, four people are in custody. Among them is the main suspect. The role of each of them in the crime remains to be determined.

An autopsy was performed to determine the cause of the girl’s death – according to the latest data, the victim died of suffocation. It was also noted that several injuries were found in the girl’s throat. The prosecution stated that at this stage of the investigation it was unwilling to comment further.

Telling the details of Lola’s murder, air force writes:

12-year-old Lola Davier went to school on Friday morning and did not return home in the afternoon. Her father raised the alarm, and soon the remains of the girl were found homeless near a multi-storey residential building in the 19th arrondissement of Paris. The police opened a case under the article on the murder of a child under aggravating circumstances in the form of torture. Later, sexual assault was added to the list of charges.

The publication writes that Lola was the daughter of the caretaker of the house in which the suspected woman from Algeria temporarily lived with her sister. According to the prosecution, she lured the girl to her apartment, “committed malicious acts of a sexual nature that led to the death of the child, and hid her body in a container.” At the disposal of the investigation there is a video recording from outdoor surveillance cameras, in which a girl, accompanied by a suspect, enters the building.

According to interviewed witnesses, Dabia B. was later seen on the street with a large plastic suitcase-container. According to eyewitnesses, she behaved chaotically: one of the passers-by even said that she asked for his help in exchange for the money she earned on the “organ trafficking case”. However, the police are not inclined to take such statements seriously. The investigation tends to believe that the murder was committed without a rational motive. In addition, both the court and the investigators acknowledge that Dabia suffers from a severe mental disorder.

After the discovery of Lola’s body, it turned out that the girl’s hands and feet were tied, there were numerous signs of violence on the body, and there was a wound on the neck. An autopsy showed, however, that death was due to strangulation. Two sticky notes were found on the soles of Lola’s shoes: the numbers “1” and “0”.

At the school where Lola Davier studied, a mournful atmosphere still reigns, psychological support groups work there. The father of one student, Gasmi, says: “My daughter cried all weekend and didn’t sleep at all. Now we can’t trust anyone in the area. I’m very afraid for the children.”
