ΕΛΑΣ: Crime rates decreased in 9 months of 2022

The main crime indicators affecting the security environment in the country show a decrease in the first 9 months of 2022 compared to the corresponding period from 2015 to 2019.

In particular, compared with 9 months of 2015-2019, for 9 months of 2022, the number of robberies decreased throughout the territory as a percentage from 33.37% to 41.04%, burglaries – burglaries from 7.87% to 16.79 %, thefts from 16.16% to 51.92%.

In more detail, the following actions were taken:

Robbery

  • 1112 less than in 2019 (2152 compared to 3264, down 34.07%).
  • 1,089 fewer than in 2018 (2,152 vs. 3,241, down 33.60%)
  • 1198 people less than in 2017 (2152 compared to 3350, a decrease of 35.76%).
  • 1498 less than in 2016 (2152 compared to 3650, down 41.04%).
  • 1,078 less than in 2015 (2152 compared to 3230, down 33.37%).

Theft (including home entry/break-in)

  • 10,169 less than in 2019 (50,385 vs. 60,554, down 16.79%).
  • 4,947 fewer than in 2018 (50,385 vs. 55,332, down 8.94%).
  • 5,253 people less than in 2017 (50,385 vs. 55,638, down 9.44%).
  • 6,124 less than in 2016 (50,385 vs. 56,509, down 10.84%).
  • 4,302 less than in 2015 (50,385 vs. 54,687, down 7.87%).

Theft of vehicles (including from cars)

  • 2,482 fewer than in 2019 (12,877 vs. 15,359, down 16.16%).
  • 4,520 people less than in 2018 (12,877 compared to 17,397, down 25.98%).
  • 13,903 less than in 2017 (12,877 compared to 26,780, down 51.92%).
  • 6,561 fewer than in 2016 (12,877 compared to 19,438, down 33.75%).
  • 5414 less than in 2015 (12,877 compared to 18,291, down 29.60%).

As noted in the report, “The Greek police services continue to implement comprehensive operational programs and special actions to further reduce the level of crime.”
