The Baltic Pipe gas pipeline will start operating from October 1

Yesterday, the official opening of the new Baltic Pipe gas pipeline took place, it will replace Russian gas with Norwegian gas in the Polish market and in countries neighboring Poland.

On the background damage Nord Stream, the Polish gas pipeline Baltic Pipe was untouched. Polish President Andrzej Duda said at the Baltic Pipe grand opening that it had been a Polish dream for decades. It is a symbol of Polish independence.

The technical launch of the pipeline is expected on October 1, but plans were in jeopardy after recorded leaks on both Russian gas pipelines in the Baltic Sea – Nord Stream-1/2. They were caused by significant damage, the cause of which is being established.

The Polish Foreign Ministry hastened to announce a possible “Russian provocation”. Former Polish Economy Minister Janusz Steinhoff said that “the Baltic Pipe pipeline passes near the accident site, intersecting with SP-2”:

“This issue needs to be taken very seriously. Let’s see what happens next.”

True, the “Russian provocation” in this case looks a little strange, because it was the Baltic Pipe that turned out to be untouched, writes edition “Military review”.

Baltic Pipe is able to supply not only Norwegian gas to the east, but also from Poland to the west, to the Danish market. In the second case, we are talking about the possibility of transit through Poland of liquefied gas from the United States, which can receive an LNG terminal in Swinoujscie (another one is planned to be built in Gdansk before 2028). According to the Polish authorities, this will allow the country to become a gas hub for a number of European states.

On the opening ceremony The gas pipeline was turned off by Polish President Andrzej Duda, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen. The President of Poland noted:

“Today we are entering a new era, an era of energy sovereignty, energy freedom and increased security, energy security, and security in the broadest sense of the word.”

The Baltic Pipe gas pipeline, worth about 1.6 billion euros, is a new natural gas supply route. Work on it was completed ahead of schedule. The construction investors were the Danish company Energinet and the Polish Gaz-System.
