Large asteroid will pass near the Earth

An asteroid nearly the size of the Olympic Stadium in Athens will fly very close to Earth on Saturday, July 30, according to NASA updates.

Asteroid 2016 CZ31, with an estimated length of 122 meters, is on its way to our planet and will approach Earth at a distance of 2.8 million kilometers.

According to the US Space Agency’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, the asteroid’s approach to Earth is predicted at 2:02 am Saturday.

Newsweek notes that the asteroid’s speed is about 55,500 kilometers per hour, which is about 17 times faster than a bullet fired from a gun and about one-fifth faster than lightning.

This asteroid is not considered “potentially dangerous”, because its length does not exceed 150 meters, although its maximum distance from our planet on July 30 will be less than 7.5 million kilometers. To be defined as “potentially dangerous”, it must meet both parameters, writes cathimerini.gr.

As reported, on July 17, asteroid 2022 KY4 passed the Earth safely.
