Forbes about the advantage of Greece over Turkey in air defense

Even if Turkey receives upgraded F16s, it will be difficult for it to overcome Greece’s technological advantage in the air force, Forbes believes:

“In any case, it will still be difficult for Turkey to overcome the significant technological advantage that the Hellenic Air Force is likely to achieve by 2030.”

The assessment was made by forbes.com in an article after the Madrid Summit. It is emphasized that congressional approval is needed to proceed with Turkey’s F16 acquisition process, but the article points out that Greece’s request to purchase the F35 is also pending. If both agreements are approved, the Greek Air Force will still have a technological advantage over the larger Turkish Air Force, as our country will have fifth-generation aircraft. In the article Forbes says:

“Greece has already awarded a contract to upgrade 84 F-16 aircraft to the Block 72 configuration. Lockheed Martin will complete this contract in mid-2027. So even if the Biden administration can get congressional approval for the Turkish F-16 deal anytime soon, that is not guaranteed. , Greece will still get 84 upgraded F-16s ahead of Turkey.”

Forbes notes that Greece is already starting to receive 24 4.5-generation Dassault Rafale F3Rs, which are more advanced than any other aircraft in the Turkish arsenal. The analysis notes Turkey’s desperate efforts to acquire aircraft of the new technology, mentioning the possible purchase of Eurofighter Typhoon fighters in the UK. In the article, as he writes cnn.gr, asserts:

“In any case, it will still be difficult for Turkey to overcome the significant technological advantage that the Hellenic Air Force is likely to achieve by 2030. Even if Turkey receives 120 F-16 Block 70/72s (40 new and 80 upgraded), they will face 84 Block 72 Vipers (all in service no later than the second half of 2027), 20-40 F-35s, and, according to at least 24 Rafales. In other words, no less than 128 Greek Air Force fighters with capabilities equal to or superior to Turkey’s best aircraft.”
