Piraeus: Thousands of lit torches at an anti-war demonstration

At a rally organized last night by the Piraeus Labor Center (Εργατικό Κέντρο Πειραιά), thousands of demonstrators lit torches in front of the French aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle.

Those gathered chanted slogans: “No land, no water for the murderers of peoples”, “Down with NATO, let them remove the bases, no participation in interventions”, “No war! Separation of our country! Imperialist ships are not welcome in the port of Piraeus.”

The demonstrators marched through the main streets of Piraeus and lit torches in front of the parking lot of the French aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle in Faliro Bay.

Earlier, our publication reported that today will be held signing an agreement for the delivery of Belharra to Greece by National Defense Minister Nikos Panagiotopoulos and his French counterpart Florence Parly on the battleship Averof in a ceremony expected to be attended by 14 senior officials from the French Defense Ministry and the company that builds the Belharra frigates.

After the final signing of contracts for the acquisition by our country of Belharra frigates and six additional Rafale fighters, two delegations will go aboard the Charles de Gaulle aircraft carrier. There, after inspecting the aircraft carrier, Greek and French officials would be briefed on the French ship’s mission in the southeastern Mediterranean.
