Arrest of a Bulgarian who was engaged in telephone fraud

The 26-year-old Bulgarian was arrested in Thessaloniki on charges of involvement in a gang that was involved in telephone fraud, referred to as “set up on the road.”

According to the Greek police, in the past, the victims of criminals were two elderly people, from whom the attackers, posing as police officers, extorted 9,500 euros and valuables.

During the investigation of the prosecutor’s office, it turned out that a specific criminal group tried to deceive four more elderly people in the same way. The accomplices of the 26-year-old detainee remain unknown, and most of them are probably located outside Greece.

The so-called car accident trick is one of the most common. Attackers call unsuspecting citizens, claiming that their relatives were involved in an accident through their own fault and demanding money to avoid prosecution.
