ELSTAT: trade balance decreased by 6.5%

Greece recorded a significant trade deficit in August as data showed ELSTAT, imports significantly exceeded exports.

Below are the details ELSTAT:

• Total import value in August 2024 amounted to 6,210.6 million euros compared to 6,449.5 million euros in the same month of 2023, a decrease of 3.7%.
  • Excluding petroleum products the decrease amounted to 158.6 million euros or 3.4%, and excluding oil products and ships – 151.9 million euros or 3.3%.
• Total export value reached EUR 3,674.9 million compared to EUR 3,736.7 million in August 2023, a decrease of 1.7%.
  • Excluding petroleum products in August 2024 there was an increase of 213.6 million euros or 9.2%, and excluding oil products and ships – by 210.2 million euros or 9.1%.
• Trade deficit amounted to 2,535.7 million euros compared to 2,712.8 million euros in August 2023, which is 6.5% less.
  • Excluding petroleum products the decrease amounted to 372.2 million euros or 15.8%, and excluding petroleum products and ships – 362.1 million euros or 15.5%.
• For 8 months, total import value amounted to 55,723.0 million euros compared to 54,649.1 million euros for the same period in 2023, an increase of 2%.
  • Excluding petroleum products growth amounted to 1,095.8 million euros or 2.7%, and excluding petroleum products and ships – 1,075.1 million euros or 2.7%.
• Total export value amounted to 33,718.9 million euros compared to 34,219.3 million euros for 8 months of 2023, which is 1.5% less.
  • Excluding petroleum products the decrease amounted to 297.3 million euros or 1.2%, and excluding petroleum products and ships – 281.0 million euros or 1.2%.
• Trade deficit amounted to 22,004.1 million euros compared to 20,429.8 million euros for 8 months 2023, an increase of 7.7%.
  • Excluding petroleum products growth amounted to 1,393.1 million euros or 8.4%, and excluding oil products and ships – 1,356.1 million euros or 8.2%.
