€10,000 for families moving to these three areas


The Greek government is launching an open program aimed at supporting families who decide to move to the central and northern regions of Evros.

Sofia Zacharaki, Minister of Social Cohesion and Family, announced an assistance program that will provide up to €10,000 to 1,000 families who choose for accommodation municipalities of Soufli, Orestiadou and Didimoticho.

During her visit to Evros together with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, the minister emphasized the importance of incentives for relocation to these regions. She also announced a reduced interest rate on loans for families with two children from the Evros prefecture as part of the My Home II program and other social initiatives.

The minister clarified that the government plans to implement an open program to cover installation costs in the central and northern regions of Evros with a total budget of 8 million euros. What the program gives:

  1. Subsidy of 10,000 euros: half of the amount will be paid upon settlement, and the other half after a year of residence if the family moves to a settlement with a population of up to 500 inhabitants.
  2. Assistance in the amount of 6,000 euros: 3,000 euros are paid upon settlement and another 3,000 after one year if the family moves to a locality with a population of more than 500 inhabitants.

The selection of families will be carried out on the basis of identifying the reason for the desire to move to the region from other places (in connection with work or professional development). Sofia Zacharaki also announced that families with two children in the Evros prefecture will be entitled to a 75% subsidy under a special housing program, which also applicable to families with three or more children. At the same time, YKOISO will continue to implement social projects with a total budget of 6.515 million euros, including:

  • Use of real estate in Orestiada in collaboration with the region and the municipality to create an elderly care unit and integrate the structure into the Social Welfare Center (EUR 1,500,000).
  • Full coverage of CDAP vouchers in the region (715,000 euros).
  • Repair of kindergartens and CAPI.
  • Expanding personal assistant services in partnership with the district.
  • Expansion of school meals in all municipalities of the prefecture of Evros, including Samothrace (budget 1,800,000 euros).

Strengthening women's entrepreneurship: The maximum amount of assistance will be 40,000 euros for 2 years (20,000 euros per year). The funding will be used to cover the operating expenses of the enterprise, employer contributions, costs of consulting and accounting support (2,500,000 euros).
